RPM to Toyota, and other car maker talks large this week

FastCar Newsdesk for New Hampshire Motor Speedway, week of 6/25/09

A partnership with Nationwide Series Toyota team Braun Racing begins this weekend (with Elliott Sadler in the No. 10) for Richard Petty Motorsports and rumors are rampant about the future manufacturer of that team. Reports surfaced this week that RPM is considering putting marquee driver Kasey Kahne in a No. 9 Sprint Cup Series Toyota in the next month and a half, but those sources say that change likely will not happen midseason.

The day I met “The King”

So, what do you say when you meet a king?

I finally got to meet “The King”.

If you’re new to stock car racing and NASCAR, you might not know who that is, but it would be surprising if you didn’t.

“The King” is Richard Petty, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ most winning driver, with 200 victories.

Mr. Petty was at the world headquarters of Valvoline in Lexington, KY, today to sign a contract of some sort.

No details were provided, but I would surmise that it had something to do with Valvoline sponsoring the #43 Richard Petty Motorsports Dodge Charger in the 2009 Daytona 500.

NO NASCAR TESTING IN 2009? Maybe… (CONFIRMED)

NASCAR is expected to announce a “no testing” policy for Sprint Cup, Nationwide Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series or NASCAR Camping World East or West Series for the 2009 season.

Teams will also not be able to test at tracks at which any of those series compete.
