Track Trash - Deetroit

‘No grip’ yada yada.

‘Save fuel’ yada yada.

‘Oooops’……

GM: What a turn-around from years past. Instead of racing in Michigan to showcase the Big Three manufacturers, thanks to our gracious President and his Democratic dweebs in Congress, this year we can cheer our own Government Motors to the winners circle. Yes, whether you are a died in the wool Ford or Chrysler fan, we all now own a piece of GM, and will be owning it for quite some time.

How’s The Year Going (So Far)?

After four races into the 2009 NASCAR season, it’s time to stop and take a look at how things are stacking up. We’ve had a driver win two races in a row and two races won with drivers having the same last name but two different car numbers.

It seems like the racing is a little better this year. Do you think it is because the teams are getting better at setting up these COTs, or like me, think it is a result of Goodyear finally doing a better job at giving them a tire that gives them better control. Are the drivers finally learning how to drive these crazy cars. You don’t hear the word ‘tight’ much anymore unless that’s what the drivers are asking their crew chiefs to do to their cars on the next pit stop.

Track Trash — Atlanta, y’all

Hey. A Spring race in Atlanta with perfect weather. Who woulda thunk?

Bruton: When Bruton starts extolling on various NA$CAR subjects, he sometimes lets his brain disengage. But not this time. Of course, his ultimate goal is to get a second race at Las Vegas, so he made a suggestion to make it happen. How about moving the last race (Homestead, with 63K seats) to Vegas with 131K seats, where there would undoubtedly be more fans in attendance, and perhaps more interest from the press. More seats, more hotels, more parking, an active airport with low fares, good weather. Actually, this is a really good idea. Unfortunately, it’s so good that NA$CAR will reject it without giving it any consideration.

Goodyear developing bigger tire; tests planned for Indy

FastCar Newsdesk for Bud Shootout, week of 2/5/09

Goodyear is looking at drastic changes to improve its racing tire. According to company officials, Goodyear is already developing a tire that is one to two inches wider and taller than the current tire that teams use. The purpose for forming the bigger tire is to give the new COTs better grip on the racetrack. The COT has caused the tires to have worse grip than on the older racecars. The cars also have less downforce than before, creating sizeable handling problems, especially on bigger racetracks.

Let's Talk About Tommy Baldwin Again Shall We?

Tommy Baldwin was a guest on Charlie and Steve's radio show, On Pit Row, this week. During the show Tommy stated that one of the reasons why he is venturing into the realm of sprint Cup Ownership is because of the CoT.
Yep, the new car is cheaper to run because you have to run the same body for all of the tracks and NASCAR has limited what you can do the chassis as well.
Technically you can run the same car at Martinsville that you run at Daytona and vise-versa and that, according to Baldwin, is the main reason why he is going racing full-time this year as a car owner.

How To Fix NASCAR - Fix What? Just Make It Better!

Lately it seems that whatever motorsports magazine or periodical you pick up you will find their expert NASCAR pundit claiming that NASCAR is broken and here's how to fix it.

Ok, being the Devil's Advocate that I am here is what I have to offer - who said it was broken in the first place? Go with me on this one.
Is it the car of tomorrow .. er .. today? Nope. Since the CoT has been introduced the safety factor for the drivers has increased. If you don't believe me just as Michael McDowell and Jeff Gordon who both walked away from some severe hits this season.
