Friday Quick Hits: Athletic Department Projects Another Surplus

Thursday Quick Hits: Rodriguez Discusses Grady Brothers

  • Senior pitcher Chris Fetter was drafted in the ninth round by the San Diego Padres.
  • Two incoming freshmen, Daniel Fields and Derek Dennis, were also drafted. Fields was taken by the Tigers in the sixth round and Dennis went to the Rays in the tenth round. It appears that Dennis will pass up the Rays and go to Michigan, but no word yet on what Fields will do. An opportunity to play for his hometown team has to be enticing.

Monday Quick Hits: Hockey Recruits Lead USA to Gold

  • Thanks to a 3-9 season and the economy, ticket sales for the 2009 football season are down right now. Not as many students bought tickets as in past years, possibly providing an indication of how ticket sales will go for non-students. I'm not too concerned, though. The athletic department really did a poor job of promoting football student season tickets, as they didn't get the word out very far in advance. For tickets to away games, for example, they didn't do any promotion to my knowledge, and the only reason I found out that away tickets were on sale was because I stumbled on to the page talking about it on MGoBlue.

Aaron Palushaj Leaves Michigan for NHL

Aaron Palushaj signed with the St. Louis Blues on Thursday, ending his career with Michigan after only his sophomore year. Michigan was actually pretty lucky to keep him as long as they did. Palushaj nearly left last summer when Max Pacioretty signed with Montreal.

Thursday Notes: Five More Added to Alumni Game

  • The official roster won't be out until next week, but add Larry Foote and four others (see below) to the list of alumni flag football game participants.

    Mark Bihl - C, 2003-06
    Ron Bellamy - WR, 1999-2002
    Thomas Wilcher - RB, 1985-86
    Aaron Shea - TE, 1996-99

Wilcher is actually Cass Tech's coach, so it's nice to see he will be part of the game. That can't hurt with the recruitment of Dior Mathis.

  • According to Rich Rodriguez's Facebook fan page, a "key member" of the national championship team will be announced later today as another player in the game.

Wednesday Notes: Devin Gardner to Make Decision Public This Week

Monday Quick Hits: Michigan Wasn't the Only Team Upset This Weekend

  • I was very disappointed with how Michigan's season ended back on Friday night, but with the Frozen Four now set, I don't feel nearly as bad about the Air Force game. Obviously it sucks that Michigan lost, but that upset was only the tip of the iceberg of what happened over the weekend. Three No. 1 seeds were eliminated in the opening round, and Boston had to score a goal with 14.4 seconds left to get past New Hampshire and advance to the Frozen Four.

Air Force Upsets Michigan in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

Despite outshooting Air Force 43-13, Michigan lost to the Falcons 2-0 earlier today. Michigan's issues with being able to score came early in the first period when Air Force killed off a 5-on-3, and it was all downhill from there. Air Force's Andrew Volkening played his butt off and didn't allow Michigan to score a single goal. He was tested all night long, but Michigan just couldn't get one past him.

Tuesday Quick Hits: Toney Clemons Decides to Transfer

  • Wide receiver Toney Clemons is going to transfer after the semester is over and has already been released athletically.

"It's time for me to make a change and go in another direction than what I am needed for," said Clemons, a two-year letterman who has 12 career receptions for 106 yards and no touchdowns. "I still love Michigan. It's still my No. 1. Athletically, this is the right move for me.

"I want to take my blessings and gifts elsewhere."
