Wednesday Quick Hits: Michigan to Play at Kansas in Basketball

  • Michigan is going to play at Kansas on December 19. Not only is this a tough matchup based on the fact that Kansas is going to be one of the nation's top teams next season, but Allen Fieldhouse is one of the toughest venues to play at in all of college basketball. This game is part of a home-and-home series, meaning Kansas will come to Ann Arbor in the 2010-11 season. (HT: UM Hoops)

Coaches Can Talk To Athletes On Twitter/FB. What About Agents?

The NCAA has formally approved the use of Twitter for recruiting purposes.  This is definitely big news for college coaches, who will use Twitter to sent direct messages to high school recruits.  But what about agents?  Agents are bound by strict NCAA regulations that prohibit contact with a student athletes until a certain point of their collegiate careers (depending on the sport).  Now, can agents, like college coaches, use sites like Twitter and Facebook to talk to athletes of any age, as long as they follow specific instructions?  These are the instructions for coaches:

Thursday Notes: Delaware State Forfeits Game to Play Michigan

  • Michigan's opponent on October 17, Delaware State, has already lost a game next season. Delaware State is also scheduled to play North Carolina AT&T on that same day, and since that game could not be rescheduled, they were forced to forfeit. Since they are getting hundreds of thousands of dollars to play at Michigan, they would rather take the money and a forfeit, which is understandable for a small school like DSU.

Michigan Loses S&C Coach Mike Curtis to Virginia

Via UM Hoops, Michigan strength and conditioning coach Mike Curtis is headed to Virginia, his alma mater. Curtis was the S&C coach for both the men's and women's basketball teams. He came to Michigan in 2008 after working for the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA, and his impact was very noticeable last season. He isn't an Internet sensation like Mike Barwis, but there is no doubt that the impact he had on Michigan was pretty big. Many factors played a part in Michigan's improvement and NCAA tournament run, and Curtis was one of those factors.
